Project Execution

This attribute assesses the use of innovative construction procedures and systems, the project’s adherence to job specifications and time schedules, and the challenges and solutions for its proper development, as well as the application of safety procedures and standards and their outcomes, and the methodology and criteria followed during the project management as a whole.

Use and Application of Concrete

This attribute assesses solutions implemented that use concrete in preference to other construction procedures and/or alternative materials during the design and execution of the project, as well as procedures to improve the application and handling of concrete.

Architectural Design

This attribute assesses the concept, spatial handling, interior and exterior design, functionality, character and identity of the project.

Innovative solutions using CEMEX concrete

This characteristic evaluates the use of concrete as a solution in the project design; innovative uses of the material; and the choice of CEMEX concrete over other construction procedures and materials.

Urban Concept

This attribute assesses whether the project is congruent with the vision of the corresponding Urban Development Plan, as well as the project’s contribution to the image of the city and respect for the community.

Respect for the Environment

This attribute assesses the use and handling of local materials, and proper consideration of prevailing winds, sunlight and natural illumination. Also considered are the selection of a responsible location within the natural context and spatial optimization, as well as sustainable use and management of water resources and green areas.

Structural Design

This attribute assesses creativity, integration to the architectural concept and the optimal selection of materials relative to structure and function.

 

Special Awards

At the discretion of the Jury, if any of the projects competing in the above categories stand out because they exemplify the specific qualities indicated below, they may be awarded special prizes.

Sustainable Building Todos los participantes

This award is given to projects that are exceptional in:

  • Planning criteria and solutions, and architectural design, construction, equipping and operation in an effort to reduce the project’s environmental impact.
  • Using a rational approach to reduce energy consumption and save water, use materials coherently, ensure indoor air quality and use renewable energy sources.
  • Exemplifying social transcendence.
  • Providing high functional performance that strives for productivity, occupants’ health and adaptability during the project’s useful life.
  • Innovating in the design and construction processes.
  • Providing the potential for reproducibility..
Accessibility Todos los participantes

This award is given to projects that are exceptional in:

  • Offering architectural and urban solutions that provide access and use for people with different types of handicaps.
  • Providing specialized installations that facilitate the building’s total use.
  • Showing architectural and urban solutions that allow people with all kinds of handicaps to arrive at their final destination, enter, move about, leave, orient themselves and communicate within the project in a safe, autonomous and comfortable manner.
  • Demonstrating a spirit of solidarity with the handicapped through a construction focused on creating an open and accessible society.

 

Requirements for Participation

Only projects in Mexico may participate.
The national competition is open to all works finished in Mexico between January 1 and December 31, 2007 and that used more than 50% CEMEX Concretos products in the total amount of materials.

Each project may only participate in one category, except for those competing in the Residential Complex and Institutional Building categories, which may compete in both Construction and Design.

In such cases, the required materials should be handed in individually for each category and two different, independent application forms completed.
